Otoplasty corrects deformed ear cartilage modeling and will thereby contribute to greater uniformity of the face. Otoplasty consists of "gluing in" so-called prominent ears. This defect is based on the three often associated causes: the ears may have an insufficiently bent outer ear mound (the outer ear is therefore too flat), exhibit hypertrophy of the air duct entrance (the ear then "tilts" forward), or the ear is tilted forward at a large angle (true prominence).
For whom is otoplasty intended?
In the great majority of cases, Otoplasty is a surgery the patient requires for a long time. The deformity arises in childhood, and if it is too visible it becomes the cause of psychological complexes.
Otoplasty can be performed from the age of seven to eight, but not before the growth of the ear is completed. For children, the decision (by parents) to undergo the operation is most often induced by taunts, and the purpose is to help the child feel better about their body. It is important that only the parents should decide for the operation.
